The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) was established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 1998.  Located in a traditional Windtower house in the heart of Al Fahidi Historic District of Bur Dubai the centre offers a range of activities through its award winning programme “Open Doors. Open Minds.”.  The SMCCU strives to demystify and raise awareness of the Emirati culture, customs and religion of the UAE.   With an overall objective to improve cross-cultural understanding and communication between Emiratis and guests across the UAE, we invite you to learn more about local culture in Dubai.

Delve into the past by visiting the Al Fahidi Historic District of Dubai, with one of our local guides.  Learn more about Dubai’s Creek villages, and the history of trade and pearl diving in the region.  All of our programmes invite guests to ask any questions they might have about the local culture, tradition and religion, where no question is off limits. Heritage Tours are held Saturdays at 9am and every Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday at 10:30am.

Come for the food, stay for the culture. Through our unique cultural meal programs guests sit in the ambience of our wind tower house courtyard, where authentic local cuisine and talk are served up.  Your host will speak about traditions surrounding food and drink, and provide an open Q & A where any question can be asked about the culture, tradition and religion of the UAE.

Cultural Meals: Monday & Wednesday Cultural Breakfast at 10am; Sunday & Tuesday Cultural Lunch at 1pm; Cultural Dinner Tuesdays at 7pm, and Cultural Brunch Saturdays at 10:30am.

The Landmark Jumeirah Mosque Programme began in 1998 and welcomes visitors in for a 75 minute presentation and Q & A which explains the religious practices in the Emirates, and the significance of the Mosque in the everyday lives of the people of the UAE.  The Jumeirah Mosque Visit runs Saturday to Thursday at 10am, no reservations required, one program per day.

Bespoke Cultural Awareness Programmes and private group bookings are also available for your company or institution available.
